South Lakes High School Shows Up Big at 6A Indoor Track and Field Championships
SLHS students had some breakout performances at the 6A North Region Indoor Track and Field Championships in Landover, Md.

Aly Rayle won the 500 meters and was part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team for South Lakes High School at the 6A North Region Indoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday, February 15 at the Prince Geroge’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD.
Rayle, a junior, finished just ahead of freshman teammate Mary Gregory to win the event in 1:17.38. Gregory was second with a 1:17.39. They teamed with sophomore Sophie Halkett and senior Devyn Jones to win the 4x400 meter relay in 4:02.67.

Jones and Halkett also had success in their individual events. Jones, who has signed with the Air Force Academy, finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a 8.34, breaking her own school-record of 8.40. She also finished second in the 300 meters with a 41.51. Halkett was seventh in the 1,000 meters but her time of 3:03.12 qualified her for next week’s 6A State Championship. Junior Olivia Beckner was second in that event with a 2:55.74.
The top six places at the region advance to states.

Senior Timiebi Ogobri, the two-time defending Liberty Conference champion in the 55 meters, added region champion to his list of accomplishments by winning the event in 6.50.
The boys 4x800 meter team of seniors Peter Sepulveda, Jack Watkins and juniors Sean Casey and Alex Loukili finished second in that event with a 8:12.61. Loukili also finished sixth in the 1,000 meters (2:39.23).
Other SLHS athletes who had state-qualifying performances at the meet:
Senior Don’ta Whitley in the 500 meters (1;08.55, 4th)
Junior Ronak Cuthill in the shot put (48-10.00, 5th)
South Lakes will compete in the VHSL 6A State Indoor Track and Field Championships, February 24-25 at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hamption, VA.
