South Lakes High School Theater Scores 18 Cappies Nominations For 'Bright Star'

RESTON, VA — South Lakes High School's production of "Bright Star" shined this spring, at least according to the audience and critics.

South Lakes High School received 18 nominations for the prestigious National Capital Area Cappies, which are considered the Tony Awards for high school theater in the DC region. It received the most nominations in 2023 of all DC area schools for its production of "Bright Star."

The South Lakes theater program scored a best musical nomination and best song nomination for "Another Round."

Group nominations included Will Daly, Josh Lewis, Mae Shaw and Abby Wyland for Marketing and Publicity; Hannah Berger, Ava Harper and the Bright Star Special Effects Team for Special Efforts or Technology; Michael Pickering, Jasper Reges, Geral Smith and the Bright Star Sound Technicians for Sound; Hannah Berger, Ava Harper and the Bright Star Lighting Team for Lighting; The Bright Star Set Team for Sets; The Bright Star Orchestra & Featured Musicians for Orchestra; Anna Leo and August Rivers for Choreography; Olivia Baumgartner, Tomas Bocock, Sebastian Harman and Eliora Janow for Stage Management; Tomas Bocock, Grayson Quigley and the Bright Star Run Crew and Ensemble for Stage Management; Townsfolk for Ensemble in a Musical;

Individual nominations included Alexa Norris for Featured Actor in a Female Role in a Musical; August Rivers for Dancer in a Male Role; Elana Kirwan for Comic Actor in a Female Role in a Musical; Jonathan Villa for Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Musical; Abigail Jamison for Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Musical; and Henry Carter for Lead Actor in a Male Role in a Musical.

Winners of the Cappies awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 12 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC.
