RESTON, VA — Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D) introduced a measure at Tuesday's meeting of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to recognize the South Lakes High School Boys Basketball Team.

The Seahawks became the first team in the Reston school's 46-year history to win the boys Virginia Class 6 State Championship. They accomplished this by defeating the Patriot High School Pioneers in a 65-39 blowout on March 9 at VCU's Siegel Center in Richmond.

"The team won despite having their star junior guard Jordan Scott having a broken thumb on his shooting hand," Alcorn said. "And while this is the first state championship for the boys team, the 1986 South Lakes girls won states with a star player named Christy Winters on the team – now Christy Winters Scott and, among many other hats she wears, the mother of the same Jordan Scott."

The supervisors unanimously approved Alcorn's motion to invite the team to the May 7 board meeting to receive a certificate of recognition for their achievement.
