There’s Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals Near Reston
Don't miss out on all the autumn activities and events that can still be enjoyed around the Reston area.
RESTON, VA — Fall is a great time to get outside in and around Reston and take in the rich offering of festivals.
The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.
Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events around Reston worth putting on the calendar:
- Farm Harvest Days: Oct. 14-16 at Frying Pan Farm Park, 2739 West Ox Road, Herndon, VA 20171. Big Truck Night takes place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Activities run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, but a fee is charged for wagon and carousel rides.
- Howl-o-ween Dog Festival: 2-5 p.m., at Brown's Chapel Recreation Area, 1575 Brown's Chapel Road, Reston, VA, 20190. Grab a pup and dress up your "best friend" in a costume to enjoy music, food, and dog treats. The event is free, but people are asked to register so the organizers can get an accurate count for food and prizes. Contact events@reston.org or 703-435-6571.
- Fairfax Fire Station Open House: Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Stations will be open for the public to tour the station, learn about fire safety, and meet the firefighters in your community.
- Halloween on the Green: Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., on the Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Ave. East, Vienna, Virginia 22180. Fall family fun including crafts, games, moon bounces, pumpkin decorating and more.
- Reston Fall 5K Fundraiser: Sunday, Oct. 16. Check-in/registration is 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m., at Browns Chapel Park, 1686 Browns Chapel Road in Reston. Registration is $45 through race day. All proceeds from this event will support the Friends of Reston's youth scholarship and enrichment fund. - Do It Your Way 0.5K: The South Lakes High School PTSA Food Pantry will be hosting the fifth annual 0.5K stroll from 2-4 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston. You can also do the event virtually anytime on Saturday or Sunday. Register online, with special pricing for students and families
- Fairfax County Trunk or Treat: Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 6-8 p.m, at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. Go "Trunk-To-Trunk" in a family-friendly atmosphere. Register to participate.
- Herndon's Monstrously Fun Trunk N' Treats: Saturday, Oct. 22, 3-5 p.m., in the parking lot of Office Evolution Herndon, which is located at 205 Van Buren St. #120. For the second year, come and enjoy trunks, treats, and pumpkin contests. Best costume award for individuals and families will be presented. Sign up here to host a trunk and be entered to win prizes for the best decorated trunk. Sponsors include Charles M Marts, Balancing Act Tutoring, and Freeman Universal. Free.

- Fall Festival at the Farm at Halley Rise: Saturday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at The Farm at Halley Rise, 2025 Fulton Place, Reston, VA 20191. Enjoy music by The High & Wides and buy lunch from José Andrés' Pepe Food Truck. This family-friendly event will feature many free activities, including lawn games, farm scavenger hunt, a pumpkin painting station, Bouquet making, and farm tours.
- Let's Go Expo With Celebrate Fairfax: Saturday, Oct. 22, 1 p.m., at 1850 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston, VA 20190-3308. This free interactive event for all ages gives attendees the chance to explore the many transit choices available in the Hunter Mill District. Hop on a Connector bus and learn about fares, student passes and routes. Learn more about Silver Line Phase 2. There will be lots of activities and food trucks available.
- Trick-or-Treat at Worldgate: Friday, Oct. 28, from 5-6 p.m.., at Worldgate Athletic Club & Spa, 13037 Worldgate Drive in Herndon. Here's a safe way for families and children from around the are to enjoy a fun night of crafts, games, and plenty of candy. The club requests participants to bring a donation of canned good for admission. All cans collected will be donated to Link Inc., a food bank that serves the Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn communities.
- Halloween Spooktacular at Mosaic: Sunday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., District Avenue, Fairfax VA 22031. Trick-or-treat at stores throughout the Mosaic District. Shop at the Farmfresh Farmers Market from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and get your face painted at the Vienna Singing Princesses glamour tent from 2-7 p.m. in Strawberry Park. Enjoy a screening of The Addams Family, the 2019 animated feature, on the Mosaic's big screen.
