Fairfax County Police identified 37-year-old Andrew Willingham of Reston as the victim in Wednesday night's fatal hit-and-run.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County Police identified the victim in the Wednesday night fatal hit and run that occurred on Fairfax County Parkway, according to a release.

Andrew Willingham, 37, of Reston, was seriously injured after the car he was driving was struck by an SUV that ran a red light at the Walnut Branch Road intersection, according to police. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue took Willingham to an area hospital for treatment, but he was later pronounced dead there.

Police and rescue units responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Detectives from FCPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit began investigating the crash. They determined Willingham was attempting to make a left turn from the parkway onto Walnut Branch Road on a green arrow, when a 2006 Chevrolet SUV traveling southbound on the parkway, ran the red light, entered the intersection, and struck Willingham's 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The driver of the SUV fled the scene of the crash on foot.

Detectives believe that speed may have been a factor in the collision and are working to determine if alcohol was also a factor. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in Willingham's case, police say.
