Severe Thunderstorm Rolls Through Northern Virginia (Photos)

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for much of the D.C. and Northern Virginia area July 1.

A fierce thunderstorm lashed the D.C. area with wind and rain on Saturday, and lots of amazing photos show just how spectacular the storm was -- although it didn't last for very long.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for D.C. and the surrounding area from 1:35 until 9 p.m. on Sunday.

The watch area included all of Washington, D.C., as well as cities and counties in Northern Virginia and Maryland.
