Volkswagen Creates 'Electrify America' in Reston to Satisfy EPA Cheating Settlement: Report

The Reston subsidiary reportedly will manage $2 billion to be spend on electric car charging stations nationwide.

RESTON, VA — Volkswagen reportedly will create a new subsidiary called "Electrify America" and base it in Reston to satisfy a legal settlement it has with the U.S. Environmental Protect Agency due to the company cheating on emissions tests for diesel cars.

The subsidiary will manage $2 billion, which will be spent to support zero-emission vehicles in the United States by investing in construction and maintenance of electric vehicle charging stations, according to a Bloomberg report.

That would include a cross-country network of 200 fast-charging stations designed for electric cars, as well as the installation of 300 charges in various cities, the report notes.
