Washington Redskins Honor Reston High School Coach

RESTON, VA — The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation has chosen South Lakes High School's head football coach for its Redskins High School Coach of the Week after a dominant 2016 run so far.

South Lakes High vaulted to No. 8 in the Washington Post's weekly rankings of local teams after upsetting then-No. 8 Madison. As a result, the Redskins made Taylor the coach of the week of Oct. 17, the Redskins announced in a statement. The team has won again since then, beating Langley 42-14 on Friday.

"Coach Taylor has used community outreach as an opportunity to advocate team building amongst his student-athletes," the statement reads. "Coach Taylor and his players are active in the 'Readers Are Leaders' program with Terreset Elementary School and assist with the Reston Youth Association’s football camps and clinics. Players also help South Lakes custodial staff move school furniture before the start of every school year."

The High School Coach of the Week program is a "league-wide initiative designed to recognize area high school football coaches who continuously demonstrate hard work and dedication to their football programs, the health and safety of their players, and who make a difference in their communities," the statement adds.

The Redskins teamed up with Inova Sports Medicine to present the award. A panel of local high school football media experts nominate deserving high schools coaches for consideration, the statement notes, and each coach that is chosen throughout the season gets a $2,000 donation to their football program from the Redskins Charitable Foundation.
