Watch For Closures, Detours on Toll Road

Metrorail construction means eastbound toll road will shut down, detour starting Wednesday.

Dulles Corridor Metrorail construction will implement a full closure of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) overnights starting Wednesday, May 2, through Friday, May 4, at the Leesburg Pike (Route 7) interchange. This closure will require a detour that will divert all eastbound traffic on to the Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH).

Closures and detours will be implemented as follows. All times are approximate:

  • 8 p.m. - The right lane of the eastbound DIAAH will close before the Route 7 interchange. All eastbound DIAAH thru traffic will continue in the left lane. The flyover exit to both directions of Route 7 remains open.
  • 9 p.m. - The left three lanes of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road will close, tapering down to one right thru lane beginning near the Trap Road overpass.
    • The exit to eastbound Route 7 will remain open.
    • No Route 267 eastbound traffic will be allowed past the eastbound Route 7 exit. The exits to westbound Route 7 and Spring Hill Road (at the toll plaza) will be closedDETOUR: Use the exit to eastbound Route 7 instead, and proceed to the Spring Hill Road intersection; U-turns are permitted to access westbound Route 7.
    • All eastbound Toll Road thru traffic will be diverted on to a temporary slip ramp and in to the right lane of the eastbound DIAAH. From the DIAAH, all motorists will continue east to access I-495 or I-66.
  • This traffic pattern should be fully in place each night by 10 p.m.
  • Closures will be picked up in reverse order, to be completed by 5 a.m. Thursday and Friday mornings, and by 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 5.
