What Do You Want To See In Reston? Our Readers Share Their Ideas

We asked our readers what amenities, restaurants or new businesses they'd like to see open in Reston.

RESTON, VA — Once again, our readers in Reston overachieved. We asked them on social media and in Neighbor posts what types of businesses, restaurants, and amenities they'd like to see come to their neighborhood — and boy did they tell us. We received a flood of responses.

As might be expected, most of the suggestions were for new types of restaurants.

"An actual decent breakfast joint that opens at 7 am with table service," wrote Larissa Powers Fuqua on Facebook. "Simple fare and decent coffee. Not a chain. Not a greasy spoon. I'm guessing most rental rates price businesses like these out. Breakfast just isn't profitable enough."

Kristina Myers echoed Powers' post: I'm from New England too so I know what you mean. I really like First Watch though - it is a chain and there is one in Fairfax, but I'd love to see one here in Hunters Woods."

Other Restonians recommended their favorite local breakfast spots, including Famous Toastery and Herndon's Virginia Kitchen.

Food

  • Personally I'd love any restaurant with lots of lacto-ovo vegetarian choices. My whole extended family is vegetarian and making everyone happy on one menu is usually difficult. It'd also be fun to bring in some of the restaurants I loved in other parts of the country that aren't on the East Coast - but I know that's wishful thinking. — Jessica Kerry Mack
  • Brewery that has good food and atmosphere — Resa Kierstein
  • An coffee shop/book store with descent place to sit and read or meet up with friends. — Maria Zoo
  • A vegetarian/vegan juicery with quick meals like Fruitive in DC. Even a Playa Bowls would be nice. — Pam Sobotka-Pick
  • Cooking class! A breakfast place — Mary Ann Ritter Youn-Batten
  • A nice cafe with good pastries and not a chain! — Susanne Bennbo Pedersen
  • A quality Lebanese restaurant — Jenny Rekas

Retail

  • A drug store in North Point Shopping Center. CVS , Walgreen's or Rite Aid. Would eliminate the drive to Herndon or Great Falls or Plaza America. — Katy Tabak
  • A grocery store at the Wiehle-Reston Metro Station. — Stella Bagel
  • I would love a shoe store! We have lots of apparel shops, but no shoes! — Jean Joy Rosenbluth
  • I would love a market in Lake Anne where after I picked up my produce and cheeses from the farmers market I could also get the rest of my groceries at Lake Anne — Jody Wolfe
