The manhunt for Abdalla started around 7:40 p.m., on Sunday, when a Town of Herndon officer heard what he believed to be gunshots coming from Worldgate Shopping Centre, according to police.

When the officer saw a vehicle speeding away from the area, he pursued it onto the Dulles Toll Road, but later lost sight of the vehicle and ended the pursuit.

While this was going on, HPD received a 911 call concerning someone suffering multiple gunshot wounds in the shopping center. Officers found the victim and began administering lifesaving aid until emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene, according to police. On Tuesday morning, the victim was reported to be in stable condition following surgery.

As investigators examined the crime scene on Sunday night, a witness returned to the shopping center to provide information. She told police that she and a juvenile had been in the vehicle when it left the shopping center. They had been able to safely escape later on, according to police. The vehicle was recovered later that same night in Reston.

Having identified the suspect, town police and members of FCPD's Fugitive Task Force tracked Abdalla throughout Herndon on Monday.

Once the suspect's location had been established, the FCPD's SWAT unit was called in to conduct the arrest. Abdalla is currently being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Police reported that Abdalla and the victim were known to each other.
