AARP Virginia Brings Creative Pairing to Fighting Fraud

Consumers can sharpen their fraud awareness while enjoying wine at Sips & Scams: Uncorking the Truth About Fraud on Saturday, April 25, in Richmond. Attendees at this free event will gain insights from AARP Fraud Watch Network, connect with volunteer Fraud Fighters, and learn about advocacy efforts to protect consumers across Virginia.

Participants can taste wine while learning to protect themselves against fraud at a wine-and-scam pairing event. An educational twist on wine tasting, attendees will be served a lesson on fraud prevention with each sip. Topics at this free event will include current scams such as cryptocurrency fraud, celebrity impostors, home improvement scams and more.

At 7 p.m. on April 30, AARP Virginia will host a webinar, Crypto Kiosk Scams: Protections for Virginians. AARP advocated for new legislation regulating cryptocurrency kiosks that passed during the recent session of the Virginia General Assembly. AARP Virginia State Advocacy Director Jared Calfee and Delegate Michelle Maldonado will discuss how crypto kiosks are used for fraud and what the legislation means for Virginians.
