Today's riddle: What did the tree say when Spring arrived? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Ten Taken to Hospitals After VA Bus Crash (jems.com) — A crash between two GRTC buses at the downtown transfer station sent 10 adults to local hospitals and has temporarily closed the Clay Street hub, forcing riders to use 9th Street transfer points instead. Richmond police and other agencies say none of the injuries are life-threatening, but the station remains closed while the investigation continues and service adjustments are in place.
2. Run Richmond 16.19 returns Sept. 12 (nbc12.com) — Richmond runners and walkers can sign up now for the Run Richmond 16.19 race returning Saturday, Sept. 12, starting at Abner Clay Park. The event combines a 16.19K run or 6.19K run/walk with an immersive journey through more than 400 years of Black history, organized by the Djimon Hounsou Foundation and local partners.
3. Obama ES students begin temporary camp, still no reopen date as mold treatments continue (wtvr.com) — Barack Obama Elementary students in Richmond are starting the year at Pine Camp Arts & Community Center while mold remediation continues at their school and no reopen date is set. Richmond Public Schools report cleaning and air testing are progressing, with similar precautionary treatments underway at McClenney and Bellevue elementaries and some classes temporarily relocated.
4. Richmond school board candidates address aging buildings at forum (nbc12.com) — Richmond voters in the 6th District heard school board candidates Jackie McDonough and Anne Holton debate how to fix aging, mold-plagued school buildings and who should be held accountable. Both support a proposed 1% sales-tax referendum dedicated to Richmond Public Schools construction, arguing it's essential to modernize century-old facilities and give students safer, healthier learning environments.
5. RABA's Heart of Virginia Bike Festival will help kids get bikes (wtvr.com) — Families around Richmond can ride or volunteer at RABA's Heart of Virginia Bike Festival on Saturday, Sept. 19, supporting bikes for local kids and the Brain Injury Association of Virginia. Routes from 11 to 101 miles, plus later build days at Richmond Raceway, will help provide hundreds of bicycles for area children this Christmas.
