Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Richmond seeks development partner for Church Hill North property redevelopment (eckansasnews.com) — Richmond is seeking developers to turn the former First Precinct site at 2503 Q Street in Church Hill North into income-diverse housing, with at least 20% of units kept affordable. The city's housing department has opened a two-step RFQ/RFP process, with a pre-response conference on October 13 and submissions due November 20, aiming to revitalize the 25th Street corridor.
2. How to protect your car as thefts rise in Richmond (12onyourside.com) — Richmond drivers, especially Honda owners in Woodland Heights and the Museum District, are being urged to tighten security after more than a dozen cars were stolen in just two weeks. Police suspect the same group is targeting mainly Honda CR-Vs and may be using electronic devices to break in. Experts recommend better insurance, steering wheel locks, tracking devices, and parking near cameras to reduce your risk.
3. Richmond region visitor spending hits a record $4.1 billion in 2025 (rvahub.com) — Visitor spending in the Richmond region hit a record $4.1 billion in 2025, including more than $1 billion spent in the city of Richmond itself. That surge supported over 30,000 regional jobs, boosted local and state tax revenues, and was driven heavily by youth and amateur sports. Local leaders say new hotel and tourism investments aim to keep that momentum going.
4. VMFA restores ownership of work by enslaved artist to descendants (nbc12.com) — Richmond's Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has formally restored ownership of an 1840 jug by enslaved artist David Drake to his descendants, then repurchased it under an ethical ownership agreement. The piece remains on display in the American Art galleries, and Drake's family hopes the arrangement keeps his story and legacy visible to Richmond visitors for generations.
5. Spanberger hosts first responders, leaders for first statewide preparedness summit (wcyb.com) — Richmond hosted a major statewide emergency preparedness summit today, bringing about 1,000 first responders and public safety leaders together to coordinate how Virginia handles large-scale crises. Governor Abigail Spanberger emphasized cross-agency cooperation, and attendees identified roughly 16 priority areas that could shape new laws and executive actions affecting how emergencies are managed across the Commonwealth.
