James River Capital Corp. (“James River”) located in Richmond, Virginia, was founded in 1986 as KP Futures Management Corp. and served as the alternative investment department of Kidder, Peabody & Co., Inc. (“Kidder”).
James River became an independent investment firm in 1995, when Paul Saunders and Kevin Brandt, the two senior officers in the department, acquired the business from Kidder, concurrent with the acquisition of Kidder by Paine Webber.
James River is registered as an Investment Advisor with the SEC, and as a Commodity Trading Advisor with the CFTC. The firm’s investment philosophy is that adding alternative investment exposure to a portfolio dominated by traditional investments through a well-diversified multi-manager product has the potential to improve overall risk-adjusted return.
