More Input, Education on Offshore Energy Benefits Needed

Consumer group advocates for more input and education on benefits of offshore energy as the federal government comment period ends

Consumer Energy Alliance President David Holt recently discussed the importance of offshore energy as the public comment period for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s (DOI) proposed 2019-2024 National OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Draft Proposed Program ended:

“This comment period was the second of many steps in the federal government’s lengthy, carefully-planned review of what resources and capabilities lay offshore and what exploration of these resources could mean for coastal states and all of America. Right now, the process is focused on gathering public input, collecting information, and analyzing how the draft proposal could benefit the nation’s energy, economic and environmental security. These are critical factors to consider, and we need to continue this important conversation to ensure we have all the answers.

“Expanded access to American energy in places like the Atlantic, Arctic and Gulf of Mexico could grow local, state and federal economies, generate billions in tax revenue and create thousands of jobs with family-supporting wages. It’d also help lower utility and fuel costs – a must-do for all families, particularly forgotten voices like those in lower-income households who regularly see a much higher percentage of their take-home pay go toward such expenses.
