Saturday
night Richmond Police responded to multiple calls in and around the Shockoe
Bottom area. A
busy night ensued as officers responded to multiple calls after midnight
including loud music, a domestic disturbance, disorderly conduct, and a series
of calls involving reckless driving within Sector 112. At
approximately 1:26 a.m. multiple units responded to a call for a large disorderly
crowd in Manchester at 3rd and Decatur Street. Officers quickly gained
control of an excessive crowd issuing citations and towing illegally parked
vehicles. Multiple firearms were discovered
in a vehicle including three assault rifles, two handguns, and a significant
amount of ammunition. At
approximately 1:34 a.m. officers responded to multiple calls of reckless
driving including a burn run/car doughnuts taking place at 18th and East
Main. When officers arrived on scene one car was cited for illegal parking but no
reckless driving or illegal behavior was observed by police. Simultaneously
at 1:40 a.m. officers responded to a large crowd and random shots fired at 15th
and Cary, no perpetrators were located. Approximately 250 vehicles were
cleared. With
the influx of the student population and reopening of businesses, our
entertainment district is at capacity. RPD will continue to patrol the area and
clear high traffic areas for crowd control. We
rely on community participation. For emergencies call 9-1-1 and for
non-emergencies please call RPD at 804-646-5100.
