Silver Diner Gets Kudos for Its Healthy Menus

Silver Diner's Executive Chef Ype Von Hengst is the creative talent behind the menus, which are receiving accolades from customers.

Sure you can get your pancakes and bacon fix at Silver Diner, but did you know the restaurant also has tons of healthy choices? They were even recognized for their vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free and kids menus recently, according to a news release from the company.

Silver Diner has several locations in Northern Virginia including:

  • Clarendon
  • Fair Oaks
  • Merrifield
  • Reston
  • Springfield
  • Tysons Corner

Silver Diner was recently honored by Food News Media, for their innovative adult and kids’ menus. The national winners were announced at the Georgia World Congress Center as part of the Atlanta Foodservice Expo.

HALO awards honor restaurant chains that have made meaningful contributions to a healthy, active lifestyle for consumers. The purpose of the awards is to give chain restaurants that have made health-related contributions the recognition they deserve and to spur further health-related innovations among restaurant chains.

Silver Diner was selected for its menu which has vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu items and its kids menu, which has won prior national awards for being one of the healthiest kids menus in the country. Silver Diner worked with the National Restaurant Association and was one of the first restaurants to sign on to the NRA’s Kids LiveWell program. Silver Diner’s Executive Chef Ype Von Hengst is the creative talent behind the menus, which are receiving many accolades from customers.

“We are delighted to win this award,” stated Von Hengst. “We have worked closely with our customers and taken their feedback to heart in developing menu items that are vegan, vegetarian and gluten free.” Von Hengst was also quick to point out that many of Silver Diner’s favorite menu items remain on the menu as well. “We consider our menu ‘flexitarian’,” Von Hengst explains, “We have delicious healthy items as well as our diner classics—something for everyone.”
