Silver Line Summit, Workshop Scheduled in Tysons, Reston Following Anniversary

Elected officials, business leaders will meet Monday to discuss Silver Line's impact; a workshop for riders is scheduled Friday in Reston.

Metrorail celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Silver Line’s opening day on Sunday, marking the arrival of unprecedented public transit access in Tysons Corner, McLean and Reston.

Now, as Metro moves into Year 2 of the Silver Line and nears Phase 2 of the rail line’s development, elected officials and business leaders in Tysons Corner are hosting a summit to discuss the Silver Line’s economic impact on the region.

The summit will take place on Monday, July 27, at noon in the Convene Conference Center Tysons at 1800 Tysons Boulevard in McLean.

Among those slated to attend are:

  • U.S. House Representative Gerry Connolly (11th district)
  • U.S. House Representative Barbara Comstock (10th district)
  • Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation Director Jennifer Mitchell
  • Fairfax County Supervisor and WMATA Board Member Catherine Hudgins
  • Fairfax Chamber of Commerce President and CEO and WMATA Board Member Jim Corcoran
  • Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority President and CEO Jack Potter
  • Tysons Partnership President Michael Caplin
  • Metro Interim General Manager and CEO Jack Requa

Later this week, on Friday, July 31, the Reston Community Center is hosting a three-hour workshop from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at its Lake Anne location.

The workshop will feature topics like how to take Metro busses to access Silver Line stations, what fares may cost on bus or rail when traveling at particular times of the day, how to purchase fare cards or load SmarTrip cards (pre-loaded fare cards), how to read the bus and/or rail maps, and more.

The workshop is free to attend, and those interested in participating can register on the Reston Community Center’s website.

As Phase 1 of the Silver Line project now enters its second year, the development of Phase 2, which will include a rail line out to Dulles International Airport, remains in development. The second phase of the Silver Line is scheduled to be completed by 2019.
