A Tyson’s Corner firefighter will receive one of the Air National Guard's most prestigious awards.
Timothy Nicholson, a lieutenant in the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, is being Earl T. Ricks Award for Outstanding Airmanship, according to a press release from Fairfax county.
Nicholson is one of 10 airmen from the 167th Airlift Wing based out of West Virginia to receive the award, which will be presented to them later this month at the 2013 Air Force Association Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition in Maryland.

Nicholson and his crew are receiving the award after an April 19 incident where he and his team were able to return safety to their base after suffering multiple bird strike during takeoff.
Nicholson is assigned to Fire and Rescue Station 29 in Tyson’s Corner.
