FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – Capital Bikeshare will be expanding across Fairfax County in May, county officials announced April 30.
Twenty-seven new stations, the largest expansion in the program's history, will be established in Annandale, Bailey's Crossroads, Seven Corners, Belle Haven, Huntington and the Mount Vernon Trail, the county's transportation department announced.
Work at each site is expected to take only a day, with bicycles stocked and available shortly afterward.
After this expansion, Fairfax County will have more than 100 bikeshare stations, including at all of its 13 Metrorail stations. According to the county, more than 40,000 trips were taken within Fairfax using Capital Bikeshare bikes last year.
The county also notes that discounted annual memberships and monthly credits are available to qualifying households through the Capital Bikeshare for All program. Details on eligibility and how to enroll in Capital Bikeshare for All are available on the Capital Bikeshare for All website.
Capital Bikeshare was launched in 2010, a successor to Washington, DC's SmartBike program of 2008, the first bike sharing program in the United States. As of 2022, it was the third-largest bike share system in the U.S.
The new Capital Bikeshare stations will be installed at the following intersections:
Annandale
Bailey’s Crossroads
Seven Corners
Belle Haven
Huntington
Mount Vernon Trail
