3 Metro Police Cruisers in I-395 Wreck

Four people were injured in the chain-reaction wreck late Saturday, according to Virginia State Police.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Three Metro Transit Police cruisers were involved in a 4-vehicle wreck late Saturday, according to Virginia State Police.

The four drivers involved in the wreck, including 3 officers, were transported to area hospitals with injuries that were not life threatening.

Just after 11 p.m., the three metro cruisers were heading north on I-395 near Seminary Road with emergency lights and sirens flashing.

A 2014 Toyota Camry in front of the cruisers reportedly suddenly slowed to a stop in the left northbound lane, according to Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller.

That led the cruisers to break and swerve in an attempt to avoid the car.

One cruiser sideswiped another cruiser before crashing into the Camry. The third cruiser struck one of the other cruisers and ran off the road and into the Jersey wall.

The three Metro officers were transported to George Washington University Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, Mary H. Daniel of Woodbridge, was transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital. She was charged with stopping in a highway, according to Geller.

All lanes reopened by 1:41 a.m.
