A Hotel for a Prince (Street)
Carr Hospitality scheduled to open Prince Street hotel in December 2014
If you have driven by the intersection of Prince Street and Daingerfield Road recently, you have seen Carr Hospitality's newest hotel project.
The company already owns the Embassy Suites, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn & Suites, all in Old Town and is now constructing a six-story hotel near the King St-Old Town Metro Station. The hotel will feature 109 rooms in a building designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, following the City’s Green Building guidelines.
Other companies owned and operated by the Carr family have a long history in Old Town. Carr Properties still owns a building in the King Street Station office complex, the Atrium office building on S. Washington Street and the recently developed Edmonson Plaza, located at 1701 Duke Street.

The new hotel will be operated by Hilton Garden Inn and will also include meeting space, a rooftop pool, and a small restaurant. The hotel includes underground valet parking, which will be accessible to hotel guests, restaurant guests, and those attending meetings at the hotel.
The hotel design follows the triangular lot, giving a distinctive look to the project. The corner of the building will have rounded glass windows, and the sides of the hotel will be a combination of yellow brick, glass, and metal.

Though most recently used as a surface parking lot, the site was home to the Alexandria Floral Company, which moved there in 1942 and operated out of a building on that site until it closed in 2006. The family-owned and operated business had a storied run in Alexandria, as chronicled by the Alexandria Gazette when it closed.
The new Prince Street hotel will join four other hotels near the King St-Old Town Metro Station: The Hilton Alexandria Old Town (246 rooms), the Embassy Suites Alexandria – Old Town (288 rooms), the Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town/Duke St (240 rooms), and the Lorien Hotel & Spa (107 rooms).
Carr Hospitality is also the developer for the approved waterfront hotel at 220 S. Union St.
