On January 26, the Alexandria City Council unanimously adopted the ResilientALX Charter, which provides a vision for enhancing the City’s Strategic Plan goal of creating a safe and resilient community. It also establishes a comprehensive approach to understanding areas of risk and developing a sound strategy for preparation and mitigation.
“Resilience helps the City adapt well to adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress,” Mayor Justin Wilson said. “The ResilientALX project will provide a holistic approach to navigating and mitigating these threats by partnering with local organizations, nonprofits, residents and businesses to determine assets and actions needed to achieve Alexandria’s goal of a well-prepared, resilient city.”

Developed in coordination with the Alexandria Citizen Corps Council (CCC), the ResilientALX project will use substantiated, community-based recommendations to produce an action plan for how the City can achieve its strategic goals for preparedness and resilience. The resulting plan will serve as the basis to provide Alexandria City Council and City staff with recommendations for current and future City Strategic Plans.
