Assistance League Recognizes Members During National Volunteer Month

April is National Volunteer Month and Assistance League of Northern Virginia wants to recognize ALL our member volunteers who have had such a profound impact on students and families in our community. The caring and commitment of our members has remained steadfast over the 22 years we have been meeting community needs.

Currently, through our philanthropic programs we provide: nonperishable food to students; new clothing and toiletries, literacy support through individualized tutoring and the donation of new books; Hugs pillows to comfort young children who need help coping, and Baby/Layette Bundles that contain hand-made baby blankets and hats, onesies, and other items for new mothers. We’ve touched the lives of more than 8000 students and families in recent years, and managed to continue providing essential help during the pandemic. The ripple effects from 2 decades of helping the most vulnerable is incalculable, but we know we’ve provided hope and happiness, as well as basic essentials.

We encourage everyone to choose a cause and volunteer! Feel the empowerment of knowing you’re making a difference in people’s lives.

To learn more about our organization and the amazing work we do, come to 1 of 3 information sessions scheduled this month: at the Tysons-Pimmit Library, 7584 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, on Wednesday, April 6, from 1 to 2:30 pm; at the Oakton Library on Wednesday, April 20 , from 1 – 2:30 at 10304 Lynnhaven Drive, Oakton; or the Burke Centre Library, on Wednesday, April 27, from 1:30 to 3 pm., at 5935 Freds Oak Road, Burke.
