City of Alexandria Acknowledges Alexandria Health Department Leadership Change

Today, the City of Alexandria responded to a change of leadership at the Alexandria Health Department (AHD), with Health Director Dr. Stephen A. Haering announcing his retirement.

“Dr. Haering’s leadership was key to Alexandria’s ability to respond quickly and nimbly to the COVID-19 pandemic in our community,” said City Manager Mark Jinks. “His almost 11 years of service to our community have made Alexandria safer, healthier and more resilient. We wish him well in his retirement.”

The Virginia Department of Health announced that Dr. Anne Gaddy will serve as the Acting Health Director, effective immediately. Dr. Gaddy currently serves as AHD’s Deputy Director and has been responsible for planning, organizing and administering Alexandria’s vaccination processes.
