The City Needs Your Help To Fix Potholes

Here's how to get a road crew to repair streets in your neighborhood.

On Monday, the city of Alexandria began a month-long effort to repair potholes on local streets, and it's asking residents and businesses to help find and report potholes by using Call.Click.Connect or by calling 703.746.HELP (4357).

Potholes form when water seeps into tiny cracks in pavement and expands during freezing temperatures. During the 2015 campaign, crews repaired more than 10,000 potholes throughout the city, and this year, crews have already begun aggressively repairing damaged streets.

This year’s severe winter weather has already caused more potholes than usual, city officials said in a statement. A typical repair consists of digging out any loose material and installing a permanent hot asphalt patch.

When the weather doesn’t allow for a permanent repair, a cold mix material is used for a temporary patch, followed by a permanent repair later in the season.
