Police Hunt for Man Brandishing Weapon Outside Alexandria School
Some schools were on lockdown Tuesday due to suspect carrying what appeared to be a "long gun," according to police.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: Some Alexandria public schools were on lockdown Tuesday afternoon as Alexandria Police search for a man brandishing a weapon outside of Maury Elementary School located at 600 Russell Road, according to police.
Police say they are looking for a suspect in the brandishing that occurred outside Maury Elementary School.
All Alexandria public schools were expected to dismiss classes as usual, except for Maury, after being locked in all afternoon Tuesday.

Dismissal times for schools are as follows:
- Elementary Schools: 2:35 p.m.
- Middle Schools: 3:15 p.m.
- Pre-schools are being held
The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion, 5’6” to 5’8”, medium build with a “belly,” with a short black mohawk-style haircut.

He was wearing a black shirt, blue pants, black boots and carrying what appeared to be a “long gun.” If you see someone matching this description call 9-1-1.
