Water Main Break Sunday Morning in Alexandria

UPDATE 10 a.m.: Duke Street is open in both directions; a repair crew is working on the break on Wheeler Avenue, blocking one of the entrances to the McDonald’s. There is plenty of room for any traffic to get by on Wheeler Avenue.

UPDATE 8:45 a.m.: A Virginia American Water spokeswoman estimates repairs will take four to six hours Sunday, from the time that the crew begins repairing the road, which has not started yet.

A Virginia American Water crew is standing by at 8:45 a.m. to begin repairs.
“Our crews are on site waiting for Miss Utility to arrive to mark the lines so they can begin the repair,” said Samantha Villegas.

Though water has been shut off to the spot, no customers are affected at this point, as they are being fed by other lines, she noted.
As far as a timeframe for when the road will re-open: “These fixes generally take us 4-6 hours to repair if they are routine. If they run into any difficulty it will be more,” she said.

The road is closed at Duke Street and Wheeler Avenue in Alexandria Sunday morning due to a water main break, according to an alert sent out by the City just after 7 a.m.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
