The 13-year-old then left the area on his bicycle. Neither of the boys reported injuries during the encounter. The robbery was reported to school staff members the next morning. The school then notified the police department.

Police identified the 13-year-old during their investigation. Authorities did not release his name due to a Virginia law designed to protect the identities of minors.
