DUMFRIES, VA — A group of teens assaulted and robbed two others on Wednesday in Dumfries, according to the Prince William County Police Department. One of the teens had a gun, police said.

The two victims, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries.

Police identified the suspects as two 14-year-old boys and a 13-year old boy. Authorities have not identified the suspects by name due to Virginia laws that protect the identities of children accused of crimes.

The 13-year-old boy is charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of assault by mob. One of the 14-year-olds is charged with one count of robbery and one count of assault by mob. The second 14-year-old is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of assault by mob, and one count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Their court dates are pending and the boys are being held at the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police officers went to the 4200 block of Ashmere Circle in Dumfries on Wednesday evening to investigate a robbery. A 14-year-old victim told police that he had been robbed and assaulted by a group of other children, according to the police report.

While officers were investigating, a parent and the second victim reported a similar assault and robbery, police said.

The assaults were separate, and both victims said they knew some of the people involved. Officers detained four children involved in the assaults nearby. One of the detained children had a gun, the police department said.

Authorities said additional charges are expected for other children who were involved in the assaults and robberies.
