3rd Suspect Arrested In Fatal Basketball Court Shooting In Dumfries

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Kensington Duane Adams, 18, of Dumfries, was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting on a Dumfries public basketball court last month.

He is the third person to be arrested in connection with the incident. Adams faces five charges, including second-degree murder, and is being held without bond, according to a news release from Prince William County police.

Four other people were injured in the gunfire on March 9, authorities said.

The arrest was made by Prince William County police with help from U.S. Marshals.

Two other suspects were arrested in March: Ryan Alexander Butler, 20, of Triangle, on March 13, and J’Shaun Zomari Williams, 19, of Gainesville, on March 23. Butler and Adams are both charged with second-degree murder, discharge firearm into an occupied dwelling, willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and concealed carry. Williams is additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The charges stem from a violent confrontation that took place at an outdoor basketball court on the 1800 block of Potomac Shores Parkway in Dumfries, in which one teenager was killed and four other people injured.

According to police, a group of individuals was playing basketball when another group arrived. Conflict broke out, and shots were fired, causing both groups to flee. One injured person was found at the scene, while four others were found at local hospitals and a nearby home.

Louis Anthony Boone, 18, of Dumfries, died from his injuries. The other four victims were a 16-year-old boy from Dumfries, two 17-year-old boys from Woodbridge and a 20-year-old man from Woodbridge, all with gunshot wounds.

Police preliminarily suspect that the incident was not random.
