5 New Laws: Revenge Porn, Celebratory Gunfire, Bicycle Space, Moped Registration and School Tests

Several new laws go on the books in Virginia, beginning July 1.

A handful of high-profile new Virginia laws will go into effect on July 1, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Here are five of the new laws in the commonwealth:

Revenge porn — nude or sexually explicit pictures maliciously shared to harass or intimidate someone — will be a Class 1 misdemeanor. The legislation passed unanimously in the House of Delegates in February.

"Brendon's Law" is named after the 7-year-old by who was killed last year by a falling bullet. The law would makes celebratory gunfire that wounds a person a Class 6 felony, with up to 5 years in prison.

Bicycle riders are getting more space to share the road with motorists. Cars will need to give 3 feet of clearance when passing, up from 2 feet.

Mopeds will need vehicle registration and title. That's a combined $30 bill. Previously, moped drivers just needed a picture ID.

The number of mandated Standards of Learning tests administered to 3rd to 8th grade students will be reduced from 22 to 17.
