WOODBRIDGE, VA — Abigail Spanberger claimed victory in Virginia's 7th congressional district on Tuesday night. The Associated Press proclaimed Spanberger as the winner around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

Throughout the 7th district, nearly 140,000 residents voted for Spanberger in Tuesday's race, according to unofficial results. About 129,000 marked Vega as their choice.

Election results are not final, as registrars will continue to count mail-in ballots through 12 p.m. on Monday as long as they were postmarked by Election Day.

In Prince William County, 140,185 people voted for Spanberger. Vega, who currently serves on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, acquired 129,370 votes.

Spanberger secured more votes at all but two of Prince William County's 64 precincts in the 7th district.

In her victory speech on Tuesday night, Spanberger thanked Vega and her supporters for their commitment to the democratic process. She also thanked her family, campaign staff, and community members across the district.

"Thank you, and I look forward to serving you all again these next two years," Spanberger said.

Vega took to Facebook on Wednesday to talk about the loss.

"We gave it our all, but came up a little short last night," Vega wrote. "While this loss is heartbreaking, I'm still committed to serving the people of Prince William County on the board of supervisors. We live in the greatest country in the world, I pray for a better and brighter future for all."
