Armed Robbers Lure Victim With Dating App

Three men robbed the 18-year-old when he thought he was meeting a woman he communicated with on a dating app, according to police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Investigators say an 18-year-old was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night when he drove to the Woodbridge area to meet a woman who he had communicated with on a dating app.

Police responded to the incident at 8:44 p.m. in the 14300 block of Westminster Lane in Woodbridge.

The victim, an 18-year-old from Bristow, told police that he had travelled to that block after communicating with a woman on the "Meet Me" app.

When he arrived, three unknown men approached his car. One of the men pulled out a handgun and demanded money. They also took the victim's cell phone and rummaged through his car before fleeing on foot.

No injuries were reported. The suspects could not be located.

Police described the suspects as black men:

  • Between 20 & 25 years of age, 6’01”, 150lbs with black hair and brown eyes. Last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans
  • Between 20 & 25 years of age, 5’10”, 180lbs with black hair and brown eyes. Last seen wearing a white shirt and brown baggy pants

A Massachusetts man is facing nine counts of armed robbery after using a dating app to meet his victims.
