Back To School: Prince William County 2021-22 School Calendar

Parents in Prince William County can mark the first day of school coming later this summer.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Back to school planning has already begun in Woodbridge and across Prince William County with calendars to help parents and students prepare for the first day of school.

The first day of school for most students in Woodbridge is Monday, Aug. 23.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point. A mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid learning is still possible in Prince William County.

The Prince William County school system has not yet announced a mask policy for the upcoming school year. However, new guidance released by the CDC has recommended all students in K-12 settings wear a mask. Some school districts in northern Virginia, including Fairfax County Public Schools, have already updated their mask guidelines for the upcoming school year in accordance with CDC recommendations.

Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

First Day: Monday, Aug. 23

Thanksgiving Break: Wednesday, Nov. 24 through Friday, Nov. 26

Winter Break: Begins on Monday, Dec. 20 and students return on Monday, Jan. 3

Spring Break: Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15

Last Day: Wednesday, June 15

This school year's calendar is slightly different from past years in Prince William County. Students and teachers will receive two full weeks off for winter break. Four additional holidays were also approved throughout the year.

Schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 7, Thursday, Sept. 16, Thursday, Nov. 4, and Tuesday, May 3, in recognition of different cultural and religious holidays.

The school system will also be closed for more commonly recognized holidays like Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 6, Veteran's Day on Thursday, Nov. 11, Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 17, and Presidents' Day on Monday, Feb. 21.
