Bank Robbed as Police Mourn Fallen Officer

A knife-wielding bank robber walked into the BB&T branch as police were beginning a funeral for an officer killed in the line of duty.

A bank robber walked into a BB&T branch on Tuesday as Prince William County Police was honoring an officer killed in the line of duty.

A witness told police that, at 11:30 a.m., the suspect entered the bank branch at 12435 Dillingham Square.

At the same time, Prince William County Police held the viewing and funeral for Ashley Guindon. She was killed Saturday, her first weekend on the job, while responding to a domestic dispute.

Troopers with the Virginia State Police and officers with Manassas City are handling calls for Prince William County Police during the funeral.

Just three miles from the funeral Tuesday, the bank robber reportedly jumped the counter at the BB&T while pointing a knife at the teller and demanding cash, according to Adrienne Helms, a Manassas City Police spokesperson.

The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white grocery bag, heading west into the woods on Old Bridge Road.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, between 17 and 18 years old, 5'11". The suspect had "metal in his mouth," according to police, and was wearing a shoulder-length red wig, a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and light gray tennis shoes.
