Double Shooting Leads To Charges For Woodbridge Teens: Police

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A pair of 16-year-old boys were arrested in Woodbridge on Thursday after a double shooting, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities identified the victims as a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man. Both victims suffered gunshot wounds. The police department said they are expected to recover.

The police department only identified the suspects as 16-year-old boys from Woodbridge. Their names have not been released due to a Virginia law that protects the identities of minors accused of crimes.

One of the teens is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics.

The other suspect is charged with two counts of malicious wounding and one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Both suspects are being held at the juvenile detention center. Their court dates are pending.

The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday near the playground in the 1200 block of Potomac Vista Drive. Investigators said the two victims were near the playground when they encountered the other two teens and an argument broke out, which led to the shooting.

Police officers arrived on the scene and provided first aid to the victims before they were taken to an area hospital.

Authorities searched for the suspects and found them nearby after the shooting. The police department said both suspects had firearms when officers found them.
