Prince William County police officials said the crash happened around 7:35 p.m. on Aug. 30 at Minnieville Road and Hedgewood Drive in Woodbridge. The drivers of a 2011 BMW 535 and a 2014 Nissan 370 Z were traveling south on Minnieville Road at a high rate of speed when the driver of the Nissan attempted an aggressive maneuver to pass a truck, according to the police report.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan lost control of the car and struck the driver's side of the BMW. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the road, where the Nissan struck a telephone pole. Police said the BMW entered an embankment before becoming airborne and striking a tree.

The driver of the BMW, Bonilla Bonilla, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Nissan, who police later identified as Hernandez, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
