Driver Escapes On Foot After Police Chase On I-95: Authorities

Authorities are still looking for a driver who led state troopers on a chase on I-95 on Tuesday morning before abandoning his vehicle.

QUANTICO, VA — A driver led Virginia state troopers on a chase on I-95 near Quantico on Tuesday morning, state police officials said. The driver escaped after crashing his car and abandoning a passenger, according to authorities.

The passenger, a woman from Philadelphia, reported minor injures in the crash. She is receving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Virginia State Police officials have not publicly identified the suspect.

The chase began around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday near mile marker 168 on I-95 south. A state trooper tried to stop a 2021 Kia Soul that had been reported stolen from Pennsylvania, authorities said.

The trooper turned on his lights and siren, but the driver of the Kia did not stop. Instead, the Kia sped away, according to a police report.

The Kia eventually crashed into an embankment while taking exit 148 to Quantico, Virginia State Police said. The driver left the car behind and ran into the woods.

Local and state police set up a perimeter in the area and searched for the suspect. Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing, but they have not announced an arrest.
