Drunk Burglar Foiled By Police During Break-In: Report
A Woodbridge man was charged with public intoxication and burglary after attempting to break into a home in Dumfries, according to police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge man was charged on Saturday after police said he attempted to break into an apartment in Dumfries. The man, Joshua Burton, was arrested during the attempt.
At 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the Briarwood apartments in Dumfries to investigate a burglary. A woman who lived in the apartment told police she saw an unknown man climb onto the balcony outside of her bedroom.
The man then kicked open the balcony door and entered the bedroom, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department. The man returned to the balcony when officers arrived at the apartment, police said.

When officers encountered the man on the balcony, they determined he was intoxicated, according to the report. Police took him into custody and escorted him from the apartment.
After he was removed the apartment, the man became agitated and began to resist the arresting officers, authorities said. There was a brief struggle before officers were able to secure him in a police car. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Police identified the man as Joshua Burton, a Woodbridge resident. He is charged with burglary, obstruction of justice, and public intoxication. Burton is being held without bond, and his court date is pending.
