Dumfries Robbery Leads To Charges For Woodbridge Man: Cops

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A man from Woodbridge was arrested and charged with robbery on Sunday, July 18. Police said officers located the man, who they identified as Anthony Wayne Cannady, while responding to a separate incident in Woodbridge.

A strong-armed robbery was reported to the Prince William County Police Department on Friday, July 16, according to the police report. In the 3900 block of Fettler Park Drive in Dumfries, an 18-year-old victim told police that he'd been robbed.

The victim said he was in a parking lot on Fettler Park Drive when an unknown man approached his vehicle. While the man knocked on the window, a woman stood in front of the victim's vehicle, according to the police report.

The man demanded money from the victim, police said. When the victim refused, the man opened the door and physically escorted him to a nearby ATM. After retrieving the money, the suspect returned the victim to his car, according to the police department.

"Before leaving the area, the suspect provided the victim with false identifying information," the Prince William County Police Department wrote in a report.

No injuries were reported in the robbery. During their investigation, officers identified Cannady as the suspect in the robbery.

On Sunday, July 18, officers were responding to a separate incident in the 17100 block of Old Stage Road when they located Cannady, according to the police report. After their investigation was completed, they arrested him.

During the arrest, officers claimed they found a controlled substance in Cannady's possession. He is charged with one count of robbery and one count of possessing a controlled substance.

Cannady is being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. His next court date is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 19.
