Dumfries Man Dies In Crash While Stopped At Traffic Light: Police

An Arlington man crashed his SUV into two vehicles stopped at a red light in Dumfries late Saturday afternoon, killing one of the drivers.

DUMFRIES, VA — An Arlington man crashed his SUV into two vehicles stopped at a red light in Dumfries late Saturday afternoon, killing one of the drivers and injuring the other, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

The driver who died was identified by police as Dennis Alan Davidson, 54, of Dumfries. He was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The other driver who was injured was a Stafford man, 46, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.

After going to the scene of the crash around 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, the Prince William County police determined that a driver of a 2008 Kia Sportage, a 54-year-old man from Arlington, was traveling westbound on Dumfries Road and attempted to turn right onto Country Club Dr.

As the Arlington man was attempting to make the right turn, his vehicle continued through the center median of Country Club Dr. and collided with the Ford Explorer Sport Trac, which was stopped at a traffic light. The impact from the collision pushed the Ford Explorer Sport Trac into the Chevrolet Silverado, the police said.

Davidson, the driver of the Ford Explorer Sport Trac, was taken to an area hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries from the collision. The Arlington man driving the Kia Sportage was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado suffered minor injuries, according to the police, and was taken to a local hospital.
