If you are looking for something fun to do outside this weekend, pack up the family and invite some friends to go to Leesylvania State Park and do a nature scavenger hunt. Turn it into a little competition within your group to see who can find everything first.
The list of things to find includes: a large red leaf, the smallest yellow leaf you can find, an animal sign like a track, feather, bone, etc and explain what animal was there, look for an old bird's nest, some rough bark, smooth bark, 2 different grasses, a smooth pebble that fits in the palm of your hand (you can take it home and paint it with fall colors!), listen for bird sounds and try to find as many different ones as you can, is it windy?, find a flower and describe its color, and explain the most beautiful thing you found all day.
Be sure to stop in to the Visitor Center and meet the Park Ranger. The Visitor Center is open Saturday and Sunday, 10:00am to 4:00pm.
