Fake Cop Foiled By Real Cop In Woodbridge

A man in a stolen vehicle pretending to be a cop was caught in the act by a real cop, according to Prince William County Police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A man pretending to be a cop Sunday night found himself confronted by a real cop and quickly fled in a vehicle he'd been trying to pass off as a police vehicle that actually had been stolen in Fairfax County earlier that day, flashing blue lights and all, according to Prince William County Police. The suspect is described as black, 5-9, 175 pounds with a medium complexion.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Prince William Parkway and Reids Prospect Drive for a report of suspicious vehicle. Someone reported that a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado activated blue flashing lights mounted on the sun visors pulled over a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. An investigation found that the Silverado driver got out and identified himself as an off-duty cop.

But that's when a marked Prince William County Police cruiser pulled in behind the Silverado and turned on his emergency lights. Ruh-Roh, as Scooby-Doo might say. The real cop walked toward the vehicles but then the Silverado took off, and the real cop found it unoccupied shortly thereafter.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 703-792-6500.
