Family Displaced After Fire Friday in Dumfries
Fire officials encourage residents to check outside electrical outlets.

A fire in Dumfries has displaced a family of four and caused $50,000 in damage.
A cause of the fire has not been determined, but fire officials are reminding other residents to routinely check outside electrical outlets.
Firefighters were called to the home at 11 a.m Friday in the 17600 block of Deweys Run Lane in Dumfries.

“Upon arrival, fire and rescue units observed fire on the outside of the home that had extended to the attic,” according to Fire and Rescue spokesperson Kim Hylander.
The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported, she said.

Red Cross is assisting three adults and a child displaced by the fire. Preliminary damages are estimated at $50,000.
According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, the area of the origin of the fire was outside the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hylander said.
Prince William County Fire & Rescue Chief Kevin McGee advises residents to periodically have their home’s electrical system, especially outside power sources, checked by a qualified electrician to assess for faulty or damaged systems as a preventative measure.
