27-Year-Old Woman Dies After SundayStabbing In Dumfries, Suspect Charged With Murder: Cops

A 27-year-old woman died on Sunday after she was stabbed during an argument at a home in Dumfries. A suspect is in custody, police said.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A 27-year-old woman is dead after a fatal stabbing in Dumfries on Sunday night, police said. A suspect, Rollanda Latavia Garrett, was arrested and charged with second degree murder. Police identified the victim as Christina Lanette Smith of Woodbridge.

Police responded to a home in the 4400 block of White Haven Drive in Dumfries around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Through an investigation, authorities determined that Garrett and Smith were in an argument inside the home. In a report, the police department described the women as acquaintances.

The argument escalated and Garrett grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body, police said. A witness tried to provide first aid until emergency personnel arrived.

First responders pronounced Smith as dead at the scene.

Officers said they detained Garrett at the scene. After their investigation, she was arrested and charged with second degree murder.
