Flash Flood Watch This Weekend for Woodbridge

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch, effective from Saturday night to Sunday morning, for Northern Virginia, much of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

The watch lasts from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday for the following areas: Prince William, Fairfax and Loudoun counties, as well as the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, and Alexandria, Arlington and Falls Church. The watch also covers Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick, Madison and Rappahannock counties.

A flash flood watch means that conditions could lead to a sudden, violent flood.

Showers and thunderstorms will sweep through the region from west to east late Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday morning, according to the weather service.

Approximately 1 to 3 inches of rain may fall during the watch period.

Storms may include torrential downpours with rain falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, causing rapid rising of creeks and streams, according to the weather service.
