Fleeing Driver Rams Police SUV During Chase On Route 1: State Police

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A Maryland man rammed into a state trooper's vehicle three times during a chase along Route 1 in Prince William County and Fairfax County, authorities said.

The state trooper was not injured in the crash, Virginia State Police Officials said. The trooper and the driver were both taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

Authorities identified the man as a 27-year-old from Brooklyn, Maryland. Police officials did not identify him by name as charges are pending.

The chase began around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday on Route 1 in Prince William County, authorities said. A state trooper saw a GMC Yukon that was wanted in connection with an investigation.

The GMC was heading northbound on Route 1 toward Fairfax County. The state trooper activated their lights and sirens, but the GMC did not stop. Instead, the driver sped away, police said.

"During the course of the pursuit, the GMC rammed the trooper's marked patrol SUV three times, until the SUV became disabled," Virginia State Police said. "The pursuit ended with the GMC stopping at Pole Rd. and Highland Lane."

Troopers were able to take the fleeing driver into custody.
