Update: 9-Year-Old Girl In Critical Condition After Woodbridge Shooting: Police

A 9-year-old girl is still in critical condition after she was shot in Woodbridge on Tuesday evening, the police department said.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 9-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot in Woodbridge on Tuesday evening, the Prince William County Police Department said. Authorities said the suspects responsible for the shooting are still at large.

Police responded to the scene in the 5300 block of Gatehouse Terrace in Woodbridge around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 9-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the police report. The officers used trauma kits to provide first aid until rescue personnel arrived on the scene.

The victim was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Wednesday, the police department said the girl is still in critical condition.

Through their investigation, authorities determined that a group of teenage males were walking in the area when one of them fired multiple gunshots. Detectives said the girl was not the intended target.

Authorities said a round also hit a vehicle that was driving through the area and a nearby front door. No other injuries were reported.

Detectives are still investigating the events that led to the shooting. Authorities described the suspects as teenaged Black males wearing dark clothing; no further description was available on Wednesday.

The police department said the shooting does not appear to be random, but there is no active threat to the community.
